Summer Family Mini Sessions at First Roots Flower Farm in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin
This past summer, I hosted a series of family mini sessions at First Roots Flower Farm in Oconomowoc, WI, and honestly — it was my favorite place to shoot all summer. Between the colorful flower fields, happy kids, and sweet farm animals, every session was bursting with joy and personality.
A Dreamy Flower Farm Setting
First Roots Flower Farm gave us the most stunning backdrop imaginable. Rows of bright zinnias, dahlias, and cosmos made every photo feel magical. The colors popped beautifully in the summer light, creating that gorgeous, golden glow that photographers (and parents!) love. Whether families were walking hand in hand between the rows or snuggling for a quick hug, the mix of posed and candid moments felt so natural and full of love.
Kids, Flowers & Farm Animals — The Perfect Combo
The kids had an absolute blast exploring the farm. Between spotting piglets and chickens and running through the flowers, their excitement was contagious. I loved capturing those spontaneous giggles and curious looks — the kind of real, joyful expressions that make these mini sessions so special.
A U-Pick Experience to Remember
After their photo sessions, families had the chance to cut their own bouquet as part of the farm’s U-pick experience. Watching parents and kids carefully choose their favorite blooms to take home was the sweetest way to end each session. It made the day feel even more meaningful — memories they could literally hold in their hands.
Looking Ahead to Next Summer
These flower farm minis were such a highlight of my year, and I’m already counting down the days until we do it again next August! The vibrant blooms, the playful energy, and the relaxed farm atmosphere make First Roots a dream location for family photos.
