There is something extra special about photographing a growing family. This Watertown, Wisconsin newborn session at Fable Studio was such a sweet reminder of why I love family photography so much.
This family recently welcomed a beautiful baby boy. His two big sisters were already completely obsessed with their new baby brother. From the moment we started photographing them, they wanted to be close to him, snuggle him, and take more photos with him. And honestly, I was not complaining!
Since I closed my studio on Main Street in Watertown in April, I have been using the local studio spaces while I work on my new home studio ready later this year. Fable Studio has quickly become one of my favorite options. The space feels cozy, neutral, and inviting. It works beautifully for relaxed lifestyle family photography.
A Cozy Newborn Session for the Whole Family
For newborn sessions, I love creating a mix of images. We capture the entire family together, but we also make time for each individual relationship.
That means photos of mom and baby. Dad and baby. Big sisters with their new brother. The whole family together. Then, we can slow things down and photograph baby alone.
For this Watertown newborn session, the girls were especially sweet with their little brother. They kept asking to take more photos with him. Those genuine moments are some of my favorites because they show the excitement of welcoming a new baby into the family.
At the same time, I still love creating a few classic newborn portraits. Baby boy had his own little setups and props, which gave the gallery some variety.

The family also did an amazing job coordinating their outfits. They chose neutral tones with soft pops of pink and navy.
That combination works especially well when you have girls and a new baby boy. The colors feel soft and timeless without making everyone look overly matched.
Outfit choices can make a big difference in a family gallery. I always recommend choosing colors that work well together rather than trying to find identical outfits for everyone.
Relaxed Newborn Photography in Watertown WI
My approach to newborn family photography focuses on relaxed, natural posing. I want families to feel comfortable. I also want the images to show the real relationships between everyone.
Newborn sessions do not need to feel stiff or overly posed. We can cuddle. We can interact. We can let siblings love on their new baby. Then, we can pause for a few more traditional portraits.
