Ixonia WI Spring Mini Sessions
Spring is one of my favorite times of year for family photography.
Everything starts turning green. The weather warms up. And families are ready to get outside again.
This spring, I hosted a weekend of mini sessions at Kanow Park in Ixonia, Wisconsin. I photographed 15 families, with each family getting a quick 15-minute session.
It was busy, fun, and full of happy families!
15-Minute Family Mini Sessions
Mini sessions are a great option when you want a few updated family photographs without committing to a full-length session.
With 15 minutes, we can keep things simple. We focus on the most important combinations and capture a handful of natural moments together.
That makes mini sessions especially helpful for families who have busy schedules or simply want a quick update to their family photos.
They can also work well for bi-annual family photographs. A short session twice a year gives you a visual record of how quickly your kids change.
Why I Chose Kanow Park in Ixonia
For these spring mini sessions, I chose a location I had not photographed at before.
Kanow Park had exactly what I needed.
There was a beautiful grassy field with a few tall trees right off the parking lot. The area also was not overly busy, which made the location easy for families to navigate.
That matters during mini sessions.
Families arrived, photographed, and headed out while the next family came in. Having everything close to the parking area kept the day moving smoothly.
The field also created a simple, natural backdrop that kept the focus on each family.
Simple Spring Family Photography
I love using simple locations for mini sessions.
You do not need a huge park with endless scenery to create beautiful family photographs. Sometimes a small field and a few trees provide everything we need.
Because the sessions are short, I can focus on connection rather than moving families all over a large location.
That helps us use our 15 minutes well. It surprises clients how much we can get in a 15 minute session, I always try to get as much variety in poses as I can and since we mostly stay in one spot it goes pretty smoothly. I was able to get each family poses of everyone together, siblings together, mom & kids and dad & kids as well as some candid playful moments during their time. Having a photographer with a plan in place helps sessions move quickly while still capturing all the great moments.
Mini sessions also give families an easy way to update their frames, holiday cards, photo albums, or simply the photos hanging on their walls.
