There is something so special about getting to photograph a family through every stage of life, and this recent first birthday session at my studio in Watertown, WI was such a meaningful one for me. I’ve had the honor of capturing so many milestones for this sweet family over the years — from their growing crew of three energetic boys to now celebrating their baby girl turning ONE!
For this first birthday photography session, we planned a mix of family portraits, sibling photos, and a floral cake smash setup to celebrate their little girl’s big milestone. These kinds of sessions are some of my favorites because they tell the full story of this season of life — the cuddles, the laughter, the chaos, and all the personality that makes each family unique.
Family Photos to Celebrate Baby Girl Turning One
We started the session with updated family photos on a simple white backdrop, their coordinating blue & neutrals outfits really popped and made these images timeless. One-year sessions are the perfect opportunity to capture not only your baby’s milestone portraits but also updated images with the entire family. Watching the bond between all four siblings was incredibly sweet. Her big brothers kept her smiling the entire session, and you could already tell how loved and adored she is.
Sibling photos are always some of my favorite images to capture during milestone sessions. The boys were playful and full of energy, while baby sister happily soaked up all the attention. These are the moments families will treasure years from now — genuine laughter, tiny hugs, and the beautiful connection between siblings.
Floral Cake Smash Session in Watertown, WI
After family portraits, it was time for the cake smash — and it did not disappoint! We created a soft floral-inspired setup perfect for celebrating her first birthday. The delicate flowers paired beautifully with her sweet personality and made such a timeless backdrop for her milestone photos.
And honestly… she gave us one of the funniest cake smash moments ever.
Instead of carefully picking at the frosting with her hands like most babies do, she went straight face-first into the cake! Everyone was laughing as she leaned in for giant bites, frosting everywhere. By the end of the session, she was completely relaxed, happily laying her head down right on top of the cake like it was the best pillow she’d ever found.
