5 Tips to Prepare for Your Newborn Photography Session
Newborn sessions are best done within the first 2 weeks after birth when babies are extra sleepy and squishy. Here are my top five tips for a smooth, relaxing newborn session:
- Keep baby full and cozy. Feed right before your session for a happy, sleepy baby.
- Keep baby warm. Babies love warmth! If you are coming to the studio I will have it nice and cozy, so dress in layers so you are comfortable too! If I am coming to your home crank the heat up a little bit or have a space heater available. I prefer to swaddle babies so they are cozy and comfortable, perfect for snuggly photos of your family.
- Have extra diapers and milk handy. Babies are not on a schedule in the first few weeks, we often have to stop the session for a quick change or feed and that's totally normal.
- Dress baby in easy-to-remove clothing & Plan your outfits ahead of time. plan your outfits ahead of time while you are still pregnant so you don't have to stress morning of. Babies don't love being changed, so easy to remove layers are great for quick transitions. I usually swaddle baby but you are welcome to have baby in a special outfit, keep in mind comfort and simplicity photograph best - as cute as a tutu or sequin set might be, they are scratchy and irritate your newborns skin, soft bamboo or knits are great for a comfy, relaxed vibe.
- Relax and enjoy the moment. Your calm energy helps baby stay peaceful, My biggest tip is to just relax.
These sessions are all about your newest addition and capturing your growing family’s love.
